Pigs fly over the State House in New Jersey

Governor Corzine, in his 2008 State of the State message, said "But pigs will fly over the Statehouse before there’s a realistic level of new taxes or spending cuts that can fix this mess." New Jersey 101.5 (WKXW) personalities Jim Gearhart, Casey Bartholomew, Ray Rossi, and a number other leaders and NJ101 listeners staged this rally at the State House in Trenton on Friday, February 8, 2008. Using helium-filled balloons, the metaphor came to life, and "pigs" actually flew over the state house. Most demonstrations in front of the State House are mundane and don't garner much press. The flying pigs added a level of drama not typically seen in Trenton.

State Barber Shop

I have been a customer at State Barber Shop since I moved to Trenton in 1979. You get more than a haircut there. Joe will tell you his view of the world and then he will motivate you to go out and make it happen. Joe is one of the treasures of Trenton. His shop is on Warren Street. He cuts the hair of an entire cross section of the city, rich to poor, powerfull to powerless (although you won't leave powerless or even poor). Some folks stop in for their peptalk even when they don't need a haircut. State Barbershop is located at 116 South Warren Street in Trenton.

Trenton at dusk

I wanted to shoot the sunset from the Calhoun Street Bridge, but since clouds were blocking the sun, we went to the Statehouse.

Firefighter Memorial

Located in front of City Hall, the iron firefighter stands holding a child. Especially poingnent today as Governor Corzine asked for a moment of silence in memory of the nine firefighters who lost their lives in Charleston, South Carolina last week.

The statue was originally located at State and Broad, in front of the old City Hall and it stood over a fountain which provided water for both people and horses (on different sides of the fountain).

Golden Swan

Progress is again being made on the restoration/renovation of the Golden Swan in Trenton. The building has been vacant for years. A lot of work was done last year. After an idle fall/winter/spring, workers are improving the facade.
