State Barber Shop

I have been a customer at State Barber Shop since I moved to Trenton in 1979. You get more than a haircut there. Joe will tell you his view of the world and then he will motivate you to go out and make it happen. Joe is one of the treasures of Trenton. His shop is on Warren Street. He cuts the hair of an entire cross section of the city, rich to poor, powerfull to powerless (although you won't leave powerless or even poor). Some folks stop in for their peptalk even when they don't need a haircut. State Barbershop is located at 116 South Warren Street in Trenton.

Trenton at dusk

I wanted to shoot the sunset from the Calhoun Street Bridge, but since clouds were blocking the sun, we went to the Statehouse.

Firefighter Memorial

Located in front of City Hall, the iron firefighter stands holding a child. Especially poingnent today as Governor Corzine asked for a moment of silence in memory of the nine firefighters who lost their lives in Charleston, South Carolina last week.

The statue was originally located at State and Broad, in front of the old City Hall and it stood over a fountain which provided water for both people and horses (on different sides of the fountain).

Golden Swan

Progress is again being made on the restoration/renovation of the Golden Swan in Trenton. The building has been vacant for years. A lot of work was done last year. After an idle fall/winter/spring, workers are improving the facade.

Upper photo taken in 1992, lower photo shows current progress.

Lightning photos

I tried to take photos of lightning tonight, but had no luck. While there was some lightning, nothing was in the direction the camera was pointing. I only got four pictures of the night sky, and they might as well have been shot with the lens cap on.

There is a lightning trigger made, but I have not even looked at the price for one.

Heat and Thunder Storms

Today was another hot day in the city. Temperatures reached the 90s. Thunderstorms are forecast and they are just outside the city. We need the rain.

Trenton Makes

Trenton, NJ has been my home since 1982. While the city has improved in some respects, progress here is best descsribed as an ebb and flow.

Historic Preservation balanced against redevelopment; my bias is toward the former, but both are necessary for the city to continue.
